Discover Fine Arts and Crafts at Hershey Artfest and Harrisburg Artsfest
Sure, Hershey, Pennsylvania is synonymous with chocolate. And people are drawn here for our world-renowned amusement park. But there's so much more to see and do! This region is a hub for creativity, and nowhere is this more evident than the fine art festivals that have become time-honored traditions every spring. Whether you're looking for a unique souvenir or a one-of-a-kind artwork, or simply enjoy the atmosphere of local festivals, these fine art events are perfect for exploring Central Pennsylvania's creative side.
Hershey Artfest is a celebration of artists, food and music held every Mother's Day weekend. Now in its 19th year, this fine arts and crafts show is set for Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is free to attend. Hershey Artfest is hosted by the Hershey History Center and brings 100 juried and non-juried artists and craftspeople from all parts of Pennsylvania and beyond to display and sell their works of art. Art lovers will appreciate the inspiring artwork from unique artisans of all media — ceramic, wood, fiber, jewelry, painting and more. Those who visit the event will be able to browse the arts and crafts at vendor booths, where they will also be able to chat with the artisans and learn about their work.
In addition to the art, more than a dozen food vendors will offer mouth-watering morsels from around the world — from pad Thai and falafel to curry and jerk chicken. Your taste buds won't be disappointed! Providing live musical entertainment while you explore Artfest are the Roy Lefever Duo and the Quiet Soul Duo. Artfest will be held at the Englewood Barn, just 6 miles from The Londonderry Inn, in the up-and-coming West End of Hershey.
Every Memorial Day weekend, thousands of art lovers converge on the beautiful setting along the Susquehanna River in our state capital to peruse the fine artwork of over 150 exhibitors during Harrisburg Artsfest. Less than a 30-minute drive from The Londonderry Inn, Harrisburg Artsfest celebrates its 56th year of showcasing art along the river on May 25-27 in Riverfront Park.
Carefully selected to showcase their talent, the artists and craftspeople at Harrisburg Artsfest represent the best artistic talent in the country. While you stroll through the outdoor art gallery during this three-day festival, you can be awe-inspired by handcrafted works in 16 different categories, including ceramics, digital, drawing, fiber (decorative and wearable), furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, miscellaneous, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and wood. Attendees are encouraged to wander along the banks of the Susquehanna River, browse the intricate art pieces, and talk to the artists about their work. And maybe you'll find an exceptional creation to bring home as a souvenir of your incredible getaway.
Beyond the art, Harrisburg Artsfest also will feature live entertainment, food, wine and beer. The main stage near State Street will showcase 17 entertainment groups, including live bands and dance groups, performing throughout the event each day. Listen to the smooth sounds coming from the Jazzfest Stage, take part in the community art project, grab a bite to eat from one (or more) of the 25 food trucks, and enjoy the city’s craft breweries and local vineyards at the beer and wine garden.
When you make plans to visit these fine art festivals, be sure to book your room at The Londonderry Inn and Estate. Let us be your restful retreat after a day of discovering masterpieces of artistic expression.
